Joy Series 2022

Joy Series

Susan Thomas, 2022

Six works on paper.

Amongst everything, joy pops out.
This series ties in with previous work relating to my mother’s memory loss, the pandemic and its challenges and the path forward.
I’ve found myself noticing, recognising and holding tight to myself little moments of good, moments of contentment and happiness. These moments are celebrated in this series of colourful works.
The marks in the paintings have their genesis in a photo I took of tar marks on the road while I was wandering down the middle of it during the first lockdown in 2020. That image stayed with me and led me to think about pathways, pathways forward following the pandemic and also neurological pathways. How we all felt and coped. It also speaks to my mother’s gentle decline and her now confused mental pathways.
