EXHIBITION Five After Five 2023

FIVE AFTER FIVE

Grey Gallery
Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand
October 24 to November 4, 2023

Ponsonby A Gap Left Open to Possibility is a series of five works which were exhibited as part of the group exhibition Five After Five. The artists were Jo Dalgety, Fiona Lee Graham, Frances Rood, Amy MacKinnon and myself.

My work in the past few years has been about family issues, my mother’s gentle decline, particularly in regards to memory, and also about other challenges like the pandemic, climate change and right wing hate.

But this series is about leaving a gap open to possibility. That is the phrase that was in my head when I started painting the first one. It’s about leaving space for hope, breathing space…. just making sure there is air for some joy and good stuff.

The marks speak of pathways and moments of clarity and moments of diffusion. Nothing is straight or straightforward.
