"In this series of ten works, entitled "Harmonised Chaos," Susan Thomas attempts to reconcile order and do-order. Using a limed palette she creates a shallow and often delicate picture plane, and then uses blocks of colour, etched lines and pencil marks to disrupt the plane and create depth and a tension between the various elements. The etched lines and pencil marks enliven the surfaces of the works, giving them vibrancy and energy and also serve to reconcile and unite the various elements.

Susan Thomas' interest in mark making and disturbed surfaces seen in her recent work, including the ten "Harmonised Chaos" works in this show, owes a debt to the mid 20th century British painter Ben Nicolson."
